Card Security Tips
Smart shopping goes beyond clipping coupons and finding hot deals. It also means protecting your financial information. Here are a few tips to keep your debit card safe while shopping.
- Always keep your debit or ATM card in a safe and secure place. Treat it as you would cash or checks. Contact the Credit Union immediately at 1-360-734-2043 if your card is lost or stolen, or if you suspect unauthorized use.
- Do not send your card number through email, as it is typically not secure.
- Do not give out your card number over the phone unless you initiated the call.
- Regularly review your account through Online Banking or your statements as soon as you receive them to verify transactions. Contact Industrial immediately if you identify any discrepancies.
- If you have forgotten your PIN or would like to select a new one, please visit the nearest branch location.
- Cancel and cut up unused credit and other cards.
- If you receive a replacement card, destroy your old card.
- When selecting a Personal Identification Number (PIN) don’t use any number or word that appears in your wallet (such as name, birth date, or phone number).
- Shop with merchants you know and trust.
- Make sure any internet purchase activity you engage in is secured with encryption to protect your account information. Look for “secure transaction” symbols like a lock symbol in the lower right-hand corner of your web browser window, or “https://…” in the address bar of the website. The “s” indicates “secured” and means the web page uses encryption.
- Always log off from any website after a purchase transaction made with your credit or debit card. If you cannot log off, shut down your browser to prevent unauthorized access to your account information.

ATM Security Tips
Here are some tips for staying safe while using an ATM:
- Protect your PIN; memorize it and do not write it down on anything you carry with you, (especially on your debit card).
- Do not allow others to use your cards (or know your PIN).
- Take someone with you if you must make a transaction at night.
- Trust your instincts whenever using an ATM; if you sense something is wrong, leave the area immediately.
- Be sure to take your card and receipt with you at the end of your transaction.
- Keep receipts and monitor transactions on your account (via Online Banking and/or your monthly statements.)
- If you feel you may have compromised your card in any way, call Industrial immediately to cancel the card and order a new one.
Walk-Up ATMS:
- Have your debit card ready when you approach the ATM. Once you have completed a transaction, leave the ATM site (avoid publicly counting cash that you have withdrawn; count your money when you are safely away from the ATM area).
- Stand directly in front to shield the display screen, keypads and transaction information from the view of others. In addition, consider using your hand as a shield when entering your PIN.
- If someone is attempting to view your transaction, or help you with your transaction, hit cancel and leave.
- Do not use an ATM if the lights are out or you see suspicious activity.
Drive-Up ATMS:
- Survey the ATM area and the physical ATM for anything suspicious.
- Keep your car doors locked, other windows closed and engine running.

Falcon Fraud Manager
The Falcon Fraud Manager is a 24/7 monitoring system designed to score and analyze card transaction patterns to determine and prevent fraudulent activity.
Experienced fraud analysts watch for any suspicious card activity and contact you immediately if they identify potential fraud on your card.
How Falcon works:
- The service has information about fraud that has occurred for other cardholders.
- The service learns your normal spending patterns. Based on a combination of this information, the service evaluates your transaction. If the transaction is considered risky, you will receive an automated call to verify that you authorized the transaction.
- The automated call will come from Card Member Security on behalf of Industrial Credit Union.
- You will be asked a series of questions to confirm your identity.
- These may include: the primary cardholder’s 5-digit zip code, 10-digit phone number, birth date and the last 4 digits of the primary card holder’s social security number.
- You will not be asked for your card number, expiration date or security code on the back of the card.
- If you confirm the transaction is legitimate, there is no impact.
- If you confirm that you did not authorize the transaction, that card is immediately blocked to stop more fraudulent transactions.
- If the automated fraud specialist cannot reach you, they will leave a message and your card may be temporarily blocked until you return the call.
- If you are unable to take the call when they contact you, it is very important that you contact Card Member Security at 1.888.241.2440 (1.909.941.1034 outside of the U.S.) immediately.
How you can help:
- Protect your card and card information.
- Regularly monitor your statements for any unauthorized activity.
- If you are contacted by an automated fraud specialist, please return the call as soon as possible.
- Verify that Industrial has your current phone number on file so you can be contacted easily if any questionable activity is detected on your account.
