Support & Resources for Our Community

By ljohnson December 17, 2025

Recovery can feel overwhelming - emotionally, physically, and financially - no one should have to navigate it alone. We are here for you.

At Industrial Credit Union, our mission has always been rooted in people helping people. Whether you are already a member or simply part of the community we serve, we are here to support you during this difficult time and help you explore options that may provide financial relief as you focus on recovery.

Financial Relief Options & Support

If you’ve been impacted by the flooding, financial institutions, including Industrial Credit Union, may be able to help with temporary relief and recovery options. Whether you’re a member or not, we’re here to help. We also encourage you to reach out to any financial institutions you work with to learn about relief options that may be available. Many of these options are commonly available across banks and credit unions.

At Industrial Credit Union, our team is here to listen, understand your situation, and help identify solutions that may ease financial stress during this challenging time.

Financial Relief Options That May Be Available

Skip-A-Pay Options
Skip-A-Pay may allow you to temporarily skip a loan payment, helping free up cash flow for urgent needs such as repairs, temporary housing, or other unexpected expenses.

Disaster Relief & Personal Loans
Industrial offers a low-interest Disaster Relief personal loan designed to help cover flood-related expenses such as home repairs, vehicle replacement, or other recovery costs. Other financial institutions may also offer personal loans for disaster-related needs, though rates and terms can vary.

Loan Modifications
A loan modification adjusts the terms of your existing loan, such as changing the interest rate, extending the loan term, or adjusting monthly payments to make them more manageable.

Loan Deferment or Forbearance
Deferment or forbearance may allow you to pause or reduce payments for a set period of time. This can provide short-term relief, though interest may continue to accrue depending on the loan type.

Refinancing Existing Loans
Refinancing replaces your current loan with a new one—often at a lower interest rate—and re-amortizes the remaining balance. This can lower monthly payments but may extend the life of the loan.

Personalized Assistance
At Industrial, our Accounts Control team works one-on-one with members to explore creative, personalized solutions based on individual financial circumstances and recovery timelines.

Important Considerations

While these options can provide temporary breathing room, it’s important to understand that:

  • The total amount of interest paid over the life of a loan may increase

  • Loan terms may be extended

  • Payments may resume at a higher amount after a deferment period ends

Despite these tradeoffs, these tools can play an important role in helping you stay financially stable as you move through recovery and rebuilding.

If you’re unsure where to start, reaching out is the first step. Whether it’s Industrial Credit Union or another financial institution, asking about available relief options can make a meaningful difference during this time.

Local & Community Resources for Flood Recovery Support

In addition to financial assistance, there are many local, state, and nonprofit organizations offering support to those impacted by the flooding. These resources may provide help with housing, food, cleanup, emergency aid, and long-term recovery.

Below are local resources you can reach out to for assistance:

  • Whatcom Ready is the central emergency preparedness and response resource for Whatcom County, operated by the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office Division of Emergency Management. It keeps residents informed about emergency alerts, weather conditions, river and flood information, road closures, public works updates, and more—all in one place.

  • During events like flooding, Whatcom Ready offers specific support tools including:

    • Flood Call Center: A dedicated line to answer questions and connect people with resources. (360) 788-5303

    • Damage Assessment Forms: Essential for documenting losses and beginning processes like FEMA reimbursement.

    • Debris Removal Information: Helps residents understand where and how to dispose of flood-impacted debris.

    • Emergency Sheltering & Basic Needs

    • Volunteer & Community Support Opportunities: Ways for community members to get involved in recovery efforts.

    • Whatcom Ready also serves as a hub for ongoing weather updates and preparedness links, helping people stay informed and connected before, during, and after emergencies.

  • Whatcom Strong is a Whatcom County Long Term Recovery Group supporting clean-up and field work supporting individuals and businesses.

  • The United Way of Whatcom and Skagit Counties (2-1-1) has established flood relief funds to support individuals and families impacted by recent flooding. Working with local partners, these funds help address immediate needs like food and shelter while also supporting longer-term recovery efforts across the community.
